I must admit - the photos don't do this doilie garland justice. I tried and tried to get some lovely photos of it hanging, but there was too much light, not enough light etc etc! I think I need to do a photography and styling course! Never mind - be assured that this is a quick and pretty project and is actually one of the favourite decorations I have hanging up this year!
To make your own, you need:
- A packet of paper doilies (mine came from a dollar store)
- Twine or ribbon
- Glue stick
- Christmas stamp and ink pad or dollar store Christmas stickers
Open the doilies and take out about 10. Fold them in half. Add glue to one side. Use some paper underneath or the glue will go through the holes in the doilie and go all over your work surface. (yep I learned the hard way!)
Position your twine along the fold and close the doily over the top firmly so the glue holds the two halves together.
Repeat this process along the twine so your garland is complete. Hang to allow your glue to dry.
Once the glue is dry, take your Christmas stamp or stickers and decorate the doilie. I used a reindeer stamp and black ink.
You are done! I love the lace effect of the doilies, and they also have a snow flake quality to them. A pretty and affordable decoration that you can also make for other special events through out the year - just use a different stamp or sticker.
If you make a garland using this tutorial I'd love you to share! Tweet me, post a picture to my facebook timeline, send me the link to your blog or upload a picture to my Flickr pool! I love seeing what people make from my tutorials, it makes my day!
Cool! I have some paper doilies in my stash - i might have to give this a go!
ReplyDeleteHow nice and simple! This would be a great xmas project for school aged kids too ;-) Love the reindeer stamps too xo

ReplyDeleteVery cute! Those paper doilies are so pretty
ReplyDeleteSo simple yet so stylish, would love to make one stamped 'MERRY CHRISTMAS'. Thanks for the idea. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always looking for easy crafts to do with little ones. We have a HUGE family & it is nice to gather the little ones. I'll go out & get some doilies & festive twine today in prep for this week-end. We also make Christmas present tags & homemade gift bags & wrap as well as scented (nonedible) Christmas cut out "cookies", decorated Graham Cracker Houses... Sometimes smallish (7") decorated woolflelt ornaments, and paperchains. All so festive & fun.... But best of all, we're making memories!
ReplyDeleteThanks to you for your lovely blog!
