It's been a cushionpalooza around here lately! After my Spike the Echidna cushion that was quickly adopted by Anna, Lucy decided she wanted a special cushion for her bed too. Who am I to refuse? There will come a day when my kids will probably be embarrassed by me making things for them, so I'll embrace their enthusiasm for now!
I made nine of these economy blocks using this tutorial by Red Pepper Quilts. Instead of any kind of theme or colour scheme I just decided to go random and scrappy. Somehow it works!
I can't decide which blocks are my favourite but I think the sweetcorn block and the kid on the scooter are up there! Fussy cutting is fun but I made an absolute mess of my stash searching through for prints that would work well at a 3" square size. For the back I kept with colourful theme and used a piece of this pretty Valori Wells fabric I've had in my stash for a long time.

DeleteEmbarrassment kicked in once my kids hit the teen years. Second time around I'm making the most if it while the next generation are still little. They happily announce to others who made they're clothes etc. Doesn't mean they like everything I sew, but they're just matter of fact if they don't and expect me to do better next time.. LOL!!! Upside of sewing for my own kids, as adults they all now ask me to sew various things; sometimes challenging for me. I'm proud of the fact that they think I can sew anything, even though the reality is otherwise.

DeleteIt's funny how our kids think we can do anything! It's good, sometimes it actually boosts my confidence! If they think I can do it, it must be true! :)
DeleteThanks Pam. I already sew less for them - I find clothes a bit fiddly and time consuming these days plus they grow out of them so quickly! I'd like to make a bigger quilt for each of them, both of them like to sleep under a light quilt on hot nights so that will be a goal before summer comes around again next year.
It looks great front and back - such cute fussy cutting. I think the centre block somehow brings it all together, and is probably my favourite block.
