Faith & Love Skirts

More sewing for the girls' summer wardrobes! This time a couple of skirts.

At the moment Lucy is loving dinosaurs. Or 'dyne-sors' as she calls them. Only problem is that there are not a lot of girls clothes with dinosaurs on them. I've bought a few things over the years from the boys department but in summer my girls love dresses and skirts.

This pic was taken after Lucy had jumped on the trampoline, sat in mud and chased the dog around the backyard. If you look closely you can probably see dirt marks!

This design is the Faith skirt from the Faith, Hope, Love pattern by Red Thread Stitches. The PDF is only $5 (which goes to charity) and gives the measurements for three different skirt variations.

The dinosaur fabric is left over from a thrifted pillowcase, the green and blue scallops are Hello Tokyo Geisha Fans from my lovely sponsor Fabric Fusion, and the blue hexagon print and yellow trim are from some discount fat quarters I picked up at my local quilting store. The pillowcase fabric was some sort of polyester which made pressing the skirt almost impossible, but I managed to avoid melting it and it came together nicely thanks to some quick stitching using my overlocker.

Anna's skirt is the Love Skirt from the same pattern, and I made it using this most divine Michael Miller Hearts and Flowers fabric which is also from Fabric Fusion. As soon as Anna saw the fabric she put dibs on it! I love how she checks out my stash these days and tells me what she thinks she might like made for her next. (The most recent request is an owl softie made from farm animal print fabric, because she is concerned that her Hoot the Owl softie does not have a friend.)

Finishing the skirt is a band of aqua with a small white polka dot through it. It picks up the small flecks of aqua in the heart print and I think it's a great match.

I made Anna's skirt in size 4 and it's huge on her. I should have made a 3, but never mind, it just means she'll get an extra year or two out of it. Elastic waistbands are excellent for that reason.

I got the idea for making these skirts when I saw Pam's post a couple of weeks ago about her versions - she made all three skirts, Faith, Love and Hope. I bought the pattern straight away and I'm so glad I did, they are fun and quick and you don't need much fabric. Thanks for the inspiration Pam!
