Chevron Baby Shower Gifts

I am a late admirer of chevron fabrics. Last year when the chevron craze seemed to be at fever pitch, I didn't get any because I felt like they where EVERYWHERE. I've changed my mind. I like the classic clean lines, and I like the alternative to cutesy kid prints. Which is why I've used them for this project.

My high school friend Mary-Kate is having her first baby and is due on Feb 1st. I went to her baby shower yesterday and this is what I made to give to her and her husband. MK's style is classic, simple and modern. I also know, as a Mum of two girls, that she will be given A LOT of pink gifts, so I decided to stray from that tradition a little.

I made a coordinating set of bibs, and the pink, grey and aqua are such a great colour combo for a baby girl. The fabric is Riley Blake Chevron quilting cotton from my sponsor Wrapped In Fabric. They stock the whole range including pre-cuts, and have super fast shipping in Australia. Definitely pop over and check them out.

I also made my standard baby gift, a travel nappy pouch filled with goodies. It was the first time I used a d-ring and clasp for the wristlet and I love the results. I also love the hot pink zip!

Including a few essential supplies, I packed all the goodies into this fabric basket I made. It was the first time I'd attempted a large basket and I found working with the heavy duty interfacing a bit difficult, so there are a few wonky bits. I got the idea for this basket from seeing this one by Anna of Noodlehead.

Can't wait to meet MK's little girl in a couple of weeks!

  2. Great gifts for a newborn, Ros, and a good choice with the contrasting zip. I'm with you using the heavy duty interfacing... very fiddly. Can't see any wonky bits from where I'm sitting.

  6. gorgeous pressie Ros, your friend will be so happy! I love the basket - they'd be great as scraps baskets. I'm taking forever to make my QAYG scraps baskets, so maybe I'll try one of these too. Catherine.
