Baby Charm Dash Quilt

Today it's my stop on the Charm Dash Blog Hop showcasing Ms Midge's Charm Dash quilt pattern. This quilt was a pleasure to make and gave me an opportunity to indulge in my recent love affair with low volume prints.

I decided to make the baby sized quilt from the pattern which required six blocks. For each block I cut a random assortment of low volume fabric to create a uniform but scrappy feel to the background.

The aqua elements of the quilt were also a scrappy affair and I've pretty much decimated that colour in my stash...oh well...I'll just have to buy some more. Fabric shopping is such a hardship.... *winks*

I backed this quilt with the classic numbers text fabric from Ikea. (Not sure if that's the exact name of it but I'm sure you've probably seen it around before.)  I love the modern simplicity of this print and it works in well with the low volumes on the front. Melissa also uses it for her Sweetwater Reunion Charm Dash. For the quilting I kept it very simple and just used straight lines with a random distance between each one. This style of quilting also keeps the project fairly quick.

I made the quilt in traditional style according to Melissa's pattern but some of the others on the tour look so incredibly different based on their colour schemes and fabric choices. I love how one pattern can be interpreted in so many different ways.

    1. Thanks Pam! It was a choice purely of necessity - I've been trying to use up my stash and I had no yardage of aqua so I pieced it from smaller amounts. I really love it too! :)
