I've been spending all my spare time over the past month sewing, sewing, sewing. But I haven't been able to show you or share across any of my social media. This secret project is a really big one, but you won't see it here on the blog. You'll have to wait until next year and then you'll have to buy it from the news stand! I'll be a featured designer in the Australian magazine Homespun (and don't worry if you are an international reader - you can download an e-version for about $4 from the app store!) and I can't wait!
Never in my life have I been so nervous about a project. I've put in so many hours and I've gone back and forth between excited, nervous, thrilled, daunted, overwhelmed, proud and finally relieved. I've driven my husband mad (look at this, can you look at this, do you like this, what about this?) and I've neglected the housework...and occasionally the kids! My skills aren't as refined as many of the other designers that Homespun features, and there were moments where I felt like I had looked at it for so long all I saw were flaws and I hated it. But when you get an opportunity like this you have to GRAB IT and worry about it later!
It's complete now and it's been sent to Homespun for them to take some amazing photos and put the article together, which I've written. As soon as it's published and available I will be spamming you with all the details, you can be sure of that!
So of course, I haven't been doing much other sewing lately. I do have something to share though, one of my favourites! I use this little pouch all the time.
I made the panels the same way as my Scrappy Zip Pouch tutorial, although this little one is a miniature - it's about half the size. I've used the technique in the Noodlehead open wide zipper pouch tutorial to add the zip to this pouch, I love the look of the little tab.
I had lots of scraps left over from this quilt, and I still have lots more so I could make a series of these pouches in all different sizes!
I do plan to make a few of these in some Christmas fabric - I need to get a head start on some teacher gifts so I'm not rushing by the time kindergarten finishes for the year.
Phew, I feel better by revealing what I've been up to behind the scenes here! Looking forward to the time when I'll be able to share more.
Yay! Congratulations on getting published, that is some amazingly awsome news :)

Congratulations! That's so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI'm a teacher and one of the best homemade things (the homemade things are the best!) I've received (the best was a tiny embroidered felt babushka brooch made by a nine year old student - she was amazingly clever with her hands) was a pouch made by a grandparent of a student. It is perfect to keep my nailpolish things in - not too big and not so small that it's useless.
That is VERY exciting news. I'm so rapt for you and I can't wait to see the spread. Well done you :) xoxo
