Willit from Will It Never End invited me to participate in a blog hop called Around The World, and I thought the questions were really interesting so here it goes!
What am I working on?
Right now I'm putting together some handmade items for a swap I'm participating in, called the Strawberry Swap. I'm sure you can guess the theme! My partner said she would like a zipper pouch, a strawberry pin cushion (which I've just finished today) and finally I am planning to make a cute cushion cover using this paper pieced strawberry.
It's the first thing I've ever paper pieced and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I don't have a lot of WIPs lying around - I like to work through projects one at a time.
How does my work differ from others in my genre?
Not sure really. That's probably something my regular readers can answer better than I can!
When I think about my sewing, I'm not consistent with one particular type of project. I like to mix it up a lot - quilts, small projects, garments for myself and for the kids, you name it. I tend not to sew the same things over and over because I get bored. I like variety and experimenting and trying new things.
I also don't sew just so I can blog about projects. Everything you see on this blog has been made for a purpose, whether it's a gift, something for me, or something for one of my girls.
Why do I write / create what I do?
I like doing it and it challenges me. Aside from the sewing and creative stuff, writing this blog has been a huge learning curve. I have learned how to use social media, to write and edit basic HTML code, to edit and enhance photographs, and have learned basic tech skills that are incredibly handy. I've basically put myself through the school of Google over the past few years and have come out the other end significantly more skilled than when I left my job to go on maternity leave back in 2009.
How does my writing / creating process work?
It's pretty organic. I make stuff when I want to then I share it when I want to. With tutorials, if I'm making something new and I think my readers might like it, I'll take photos as I go. If it works out, I'll publish it as a tutorial. I like to be honest and truthful, but of course, I hope you all know that this blog is a bit of a highlight reel.
Next week, I'm passing the baton on to Jane and Alisa.
Jane is a real life friend that I met through blogging and she runs her own gorgeous handmade business called Lil Pip Designs. You can check out her blog, also called Lil Pip.
Alisa is a blogger who is truly international. With a Russian and US background, she and her family currently live in Taiwan. Her blog is A Stitch In Between.
Lovely to come across your blog through the Round the World Blog Hop! I have just completed a first part of mine here: http://livjaa.tumblr.com/post/93033012826/round-the-world-blog-hop-part-1#.U9VU__ldWSo

ReplyDeleteYour paper pieced strawberry looks great, Ros!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in. It's great getting to know you just a little bit better. Other than me having about a trillion WIPs and you only ever having one at a time, I think we are pretty similar :)
ReplyDelete'Tis lovely to fall upon your lovely blog via Round the World Blog Hop. Oh my, your strawberry paper piecing block is amazing, I can't believe it is your first attempt. Love your pretty bag also.
ReplyDeleteJust finding you through Around the World blog hop, but I am also in the Strawberry Swap and I just finished my shorts on the line for my daughter today and they are to small they don't even go over her thighs, grrr...but I found a friend to pass them on to.
